Jolly Holiday by the sea!

WHITBY!

I'm off to the Goth Weekend to hang out with friends in t'pub and see the same bands over and over again...Lol
I'll be helping out Forever in Black at The Met during the day time, and I don't think we've planned much of our night time jaunts yet but the internet signal in Whitby is pants and I'll be having way to much fun to stop and blog so there likely won't be any more post until Tuesday.
Have fun without me, there will be pictures when I get back :)

Heads up UK readers SPUC are here and trying to oppress YOUR RIGHTS

I honestly thought we were better than this on my little island...

On Saturday 28 April (some locations Sat 21 April), supporters of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) www.spuc.org.uk will (warning clicking that may result in you putting your fist through your monitor) form chains, standing along the kerbside at intervals holding placards which bring home the reality of abortion. The event is known as the Pro-life Chains and will be held from 11am to 1pm

Chains will take place at the following towns on Saturday 28 April from 11am to 1pm unless otherwise stated:
Ashton-under-Lyne
Balsall Common

Bedford - 12 noon to 1.30 pm

I don't know about elsewhere but in Newcastle Upon Tyne there'll be counter demonstration (that unfortunately I'll be unable to attend) and the Facebook event can be found here . I urge everybody who can get involved in counter demonstrations to do so, let's show these people that we Brits will NOT stand for people who try and take our choices away.

This IS NOT just a women's reproductive rights issue, SPUC also have campaigns against same sex marriage:

  • Marriage - the permanent, exclusive union of one man and one woman - is the basis of the family, the fundamental group unit of society. Upholding marriage is therefore in everyone’s interests.
  • Marriage as an institution protects children, both born and unborn. Statistics show that unborn children are much safer within marriage than outside marriage.
  • Same-sex marriage lacks basic elements of true marriage e.g. the complementary sexual difference between spouses necessary for the procreation and healthy upbringing of children.
  • Same-sex marriage represents an attempt to redefine marriage, thus undermining marriage. This undermining lessens the protection for unborn children which true marriage provides."

Their website is full of un-sourcable miss-information that in many cases appears to have been made up on the spot and in numerous cases they link to a blog (which they seem to be aiming at young people) that refers to the pro-choice movement as "pro-death" and "anti-life" which simply is not the case, I am pro-choice, if I were "pro-death" as they say I would not be typing this because I would have killed myself by now.
In a quick scroll through all of the blog's misinformation I found this:

"Every woman is safer without abortion and that's a fact."

No, just no, just go and look up the word "fact" before you fail at using it again.
Even WITHOUT including the stereotype of the woman who dies in a back alley with a coat hanger, NOT HAVING ACCESS TO SAFE, MEDICAL ABORTIONS KILLS WOMEN.
There are women who WANT to be mothers who end up having to abort due to complications with the pregnancy, if you really think letting those women die rather than have abortion access then you have no right to accuse the pro-choice movement of being "pro-death".

To repeat what I said earlier:

I urge everybody who can get involved in counter demonstrations to do so, let's show these people that we Brits will NOT stand for people who try and take our choices away.

Hime Hair works so much better now that I actually HAVE hair!

Not sure if I prefer side swept fringe...Thoughts?
Anyhow I think this hairdo will be making an appearance at Whitby next weekend (I will curl the bottom though).

For funnies I found a picture of the first time I tried this in 2010:
Hahaha definitely looks better now that I have more hair :)

Amsterdam Touristy Snaps :)

I promised I would take lots of photos and so I did :)

Beautiful stonework at the Caree theatre where we saw Within Temptation (see previous post)

Kev and I :)

My dress is 1950's vintage because I thought "Oldest Theatre in Amsterdam, I want to wear something theatre appropriate" :)

One more of the Theatre :)

The most beautiful sushi bar I have ever seen!

The Cafe where we had breakfast on Sunday morning :)

We went all the way to Holland and STILL could not escape bagpipers!

After the fall of the Empire, Darth Vader turned to street performing to make enough money to buy some Hagelslag!

KITTY!!!

Beautiful corset from 1906 in the Sex Museum.

A beautiful window display that we passed :)

One of the many canals that Amsterdam is famous for :)

The Heineken Experience

The theatre Resturaunt where we had dinner on Sunday (best food I have EVER eaten, total foodgasm!)

Mulligans Irish bar (which was hosting an Irish jam session...A little surreal!)

Within Temptation at the Carré theatre, Amsterdam

Within Temptation played at Mera Luna last year, but I missed a huge part of their set because I wanted to see Patrick Wolf in the hanger (Patrick is one of three artists who I'd literally trample people out of the way to see, the other two being Tori Amos and Kate Bush), but Kev very much enjoyed them.
We managed to miss their more local to us dates through this and that, but when we saw that they were playing Amsterdam, being the travelling types we decided to make a weekend of it :D

We managed to get tickets to see them on both nights they played at the Carré (Saturday and Sunday) and although they played the same set list both nights (here and here), I thoroughly enjoyed both nights.

This was as good as it got for my poor camera on Saturday!

On the Saturday night we were at the back row on the first floor all the way to the right, which meant that part of our view was obscured by the giant speakers (most of the screens at the back were blocked out, we couldn't see the drums and when Sharon was stood at the back we could only see her from the kneecaps down 0.o), however the sound was great and I really enjoyed what they played.

Their set was in two halves, presumably to reflect how theatre performances are usually in two halves.
The first half was mostly calmer, gentle tracks such as "Our Farewell" and "Never Ending Story" and the second half was made up of heavier tracks like "Mother Earth" and "Stand My Ground".

My poor wee camera did a lot better on Sunday night!

On the following night we were in pretty much the same seats but on the left hand side of the theatre and a few rows closer so we could see more of the screens and the stage.

While as I said they played the same set both nights I preferred Sunday's performance slightly, although I think that is probably down to not being as travel tired as I had been on the Saturday (and the amazing dinner in the theatre restaurant put me really good mood too).

BRB Oldest Theatre in Amsterdam

Pic unrelated

I'm off to Amsterdam for the weekend, see you all on Monday, hopefully with pictures and tales of amazing!

The Legacy: His Name Was Jason

A blog event hosted by Memoirs of a Scream Queen

For my post I decided to post about when good franchises go bad:

But then become so hilarious that you end up enjoying them...

"Welcome to the Future of Horror. He's been drowned, chainsawed, knifed, axed, hammered, shocked, burned, spiked, nailed, shot and frozen. Now he's back for more." - Jason X

The plot is...Bad...The acting is er...Bad (although I was amused to see Lexa Doig and Lisa Ryder as almost each other's characters from Andromeda!), and well the script is pretty bad too, however it hits a "so bad it's great" level with me as I actually found it hilarious!

It's the perfect Jason movie to watch with a few alcoholic beverages and some friends (in fact why not play a "bad jokes" shots game!)
