New Header

So by now you'll have seen my new banner, it's been a while since I last changed the layout and I've been getting really into Witch House and Depeche Mode lately, and that's the direction I see this blog going in really.
Lolita is not forever, but triangles are a symbol of eternity, so I really think this is my scene.
I hope you'll join me in my journey to a higher plane of blogging.

I love you all

Busy, busy, full of busy!

I have a very busy long weekend ahead in Sheffield this weekend where I will be for the Resistanz Festival, I will hopefully snap some people's outfit shots similar to how I did at the last Whitby Goth Weekend and maybe we'll get some new readers joining us :)

Next weekend will also be crazy busy as I have three photoshoots lined up, the themes are Witches, Victorian Gothic, and I'm also doing a Victorian Glamour shoot in a studio!

Gillette Venus and Olay razor review

My Gillette Venus and Olay razor stuck to the wall with the handy, dandy sucker!

So for the past few weeks I have been asking trivia questions over on the Queens of the Wild Frontier Facebook Page, the reason is that I have been testing out the Gillette Venus and Olay razor, which was sent to me by Savvy Circle.
The answers to the questions will be at the end of this post, but first of all I want to talk about my thoughts on this product.

I don't usually like women's razors, usually I use a generic men's disposable razor because usually I find that women's razors aren't that strong, cost an absolute fortune and don't last very long.
This however gives an incredibly close shave (I had wanted to include a video but my camera just isn't HD enough to be able to show how close a shave this razor gives, I'm sorry!), and because of the Olay moisture bars it leaves my legs feeling soft and amazing, as an added bonus the moisture bars have the same delicious citrus-y smell that the Olay Multiraduance Lotion that I reviewed here has, so if like me you shave your legs in the bath/shower in the morning it really wakes you up! You can also then use a little of the lotion on your legs if you have it to make them extra soft and silky!
The other great thing about how closely this razor shaves is that usually I have to shave my legs twice over the course of a week to keep them smooth, however since starting to use this razor I only have to do them the once, and by a week later they're only just stubbly enough to justify shaving them again.

So as you can tell I'm pretty happy with this product, and I will be buying new blades (and at £10.99 for 3, I actually think that they might work out cheaper than some of the disposable razors I have bought in the past).

Now because I know you've all been wondering for those quiz answers:

  1. Stone Age Women (and likely men to) used Sea Shells to get rid of unwanted hair.
  2. There are over 8,000 hairs on a woman's leg.
  3. Cleopatra is said to have bathed in milk and honey.
  4. The first women's razor was the Gillette Milady Décolleté in 1915
Queen Elizabeth 1st plucked hairs from her forehead to look nobler.

Hawaii Style Through the Ages

 photo 567852de-2571-4fe5-aa4f-52025738c41a_zps3f624ec7.jpg
Dressing appropriately for the warm, tropical weather associated with Hawaii is about a lot more than simply wearing clothing that’s as minimal as possible. Hawaiian fashion trends have always been about celebrating the culture and embracing the ideals of the region to a very high degree. That said, it’s not difficult to see why they’ve had such a profound influence on the fashions of other parts of the world, such as Hollywood.
As is the case with any region’s trademark fashion traditions, Hawaiian fashion trends have been shaped by the local atmosphere, particularly the beautiful weather and peaceful way of life on the islands. Whenever people have wanted to let their laid back attitude or love of natural beauty shine, they wear items like Hawaiian shirts; long, flowing, wrapped Pa’u skirts; or fragrant tropical blooms in their hair. This infographic gives you a closer look at how all of those traditions came to be… and lets you in on some other fun facts about Hawaii to boot

The Beauty Of Designer Temporary Tattoos For The Customer And The Artist

Designer Temporary Tattoo Trend Benefits the Customer and the ArtistChanel temp tattoo set
One of the hottest trends to hit the beauty scene in recent months is designer temporary tattoos. In addition to its dynamic look, many designers are creating the styles to accessorize with their clothing lines and the bags their clientele carry. Artists are just as excited with this new fashion statement because temporary tattoos are a new way they can showcase their artistic talents in the bold designs that they create.

Temporary Tattoos as the New Accessory

Handbags, iPods, belts and shoes have been the norm in the latest fashion accessories. However, with the emergence of temporary tattoos, designers are getting in on the action with this fashionable body art. Unlike a permanent tattoo, temporary ink allows the individual to change their patterns and designs like they would their shoes. If you’re trying to go for a particular look, you can change your style to something more edgy or less dramatic depending on your particular mood. Fashion runways this season have their models ablaze with these designs that can decorate the face, shoulders, torsos, necks, legs and arms. Some popular styles include necklace and earring art, tribal symbols around the arms and neck and flowery back adornment.

Designers want a Piece of the Action

Famous designers such as Louis Vuitton, Dereon, Chanel and Betsey Johnson are at the top of this trend and have created their own lines of temporary tattoos for the consumer to enjoy. These temporary styles allow the individual to change their artistic creations with the season which is a drastic change from the permanent designs of regular tattoos. The upper end line of tattoos can be quite expensive for something temporary, but Betsey Johnson has made the tattoos affordable for most consumers with a price of around $25. If you’re looking to make a statement, Christian Dior’s latest collection starts in the area of $120 for a set. The temporary 24-carat gold creations are jewelry inspired, glamorous and can adorn any part of your body.

What do Tattoo Artists Think?

Artists at the helm of the temporary tattoos are just as excited. They can create an assortment of designs that go beyond permanence. High-end tattoo designs allow the artists to think outside the box and come up with designs that are ornamental and can be worn in a number of ways. Instead of adorning your neck or wrist with expensive jewelry, an artist can get creative and choose a tattoo necklace that matches a glamorous dress. Weddings no longer have to be traditional. Try draping your neck or shoulders in temporary tattoo art and give your walk down the aisle a unique and unusual flair.

Up and coming trend setters see this new look as a fashion hit and are embracing the temporary tattoos with open arms. If you’re looking for a new fashion trend that will set the seasons on fire this year, you might want to look into the latest designer creations in temporary fashion art before making the commitment to a permanent tattoo.

Lolita 52 Challenge - Week 8 - Why don't I wear Lolita more often?

A mixture of things really.
My Lolita wardrobe is getting bigger but it's still not huge, it's not always practical to wear Lolita (for example, I run to keep fit, I don't think it would be practical to run in Lolita, I would like to do a charity run in Lolita though, perhaps a Zombie run?) and well I lie other things to. I get bored wearing one style all the time!

Skeleton Ponies Skirt

Finished my Skeleton Ponies skirt yesterday :)

I was a little worried that the fabric might not be that great quality, but actually I was delighted by it, and I will likely be ordering from Spoonflower again some time.

Here it is flat, I need to give it a good iron before I wear it.

Heart shaped button and hand stitched buttonhole.

Dsquared2 - LES DAMES MASCULINES

Dsquared in almost complete contrast to most of the other things I have posted lately went for a classic, tailored look this season, drawing inspirations from 40's Hollywood glamour mixed with giant statement jewellery.

Versace - Vunk!

There has been a lot of punk inspiration in the AW collections this year, especially in Milan. Versace's take went all out punk, but still managing to bring in the glamour and "bling" that Versace is known for.
While this is most certainly a wild collection, I could still see some of the evening wear section on the red carpet, a couple of those actually remind me a little bit of the Versace safety pin dress Elizabeth Hurley wore to the première of Four Weddings and a Funeral, so it's nice to see them revisiting a few of their ideas that worked in a different way.

A lot of this collection is very do-able for those of us on a budget, while I figure that the vibrant yellow fur is most likely real fur dyed (which I wouldn't wear anyway, as I'm against fur unless it's vintage), it would be pretty easy to make something similar in a nice fake fur on a bit more of a shoestring budget.

Sister by Sibling

Knitwear has a stereotype of being boring...Something your Nan does, or a shapeless garment that's designed for function and function alone, to keep you warm in the winter.
Not Sibling.
Sibling are cool, not in a old people using young people words way, more like cool in the same way Fezes are!
I very much like the grey, knit pencil skirt suit, I actually really like the skirts in this collection in general, it's making me want to pick up some needles and learn!

Lolita 52 Challenge - Week 7 - Why I Wear Lolita

I managed to end up a week behind again so you get two posts from this meme this week while I catch up.

The simple answer is: Because I like it.

I don't care about the opinions of anonymous strangers, Lolita looks pretty and makes me feel pretty and that is why I wear it.

Jonathan Saunders Women's Wear A/W 13/14

This collection REALLY surprised me, if you've pressed play before starting to read this you'll probably see why.
I'm really not that fond of the first few outfits, I know I have weird taste and everything but they're just to safe and mainstream-y for me (even with the vinyl decals), and then SUDDENLY!!!
Vinyl and devore (two of my favourite things!) EVERYWHERE!
It's kind of like watching someone have a mid-life crisis and go from twin set and pearls to fabulous sex goddess in seconds!
And it's not just the black vinyl that I love, take a look at the pink dress...UNF!
Also predictably (because lets face it I am) I also really like the vinyl bodices and corsets (especially the ones that cup the busts).

Lolita 52 Challenge - Week 6: My favorite Lolita brand

Moi Meme Moitie

Moitie have been accused of being cheesy, over-priced tat but I don't care... I love Moitie, although currently I don't own any (while  don't thin they are over-priced and I would pay their prices if I had that kind of money, currently I don't), I do hope to own at least something small within the next few years.

Iron Gate in blue

Like many Lolitas who prefer the more Gothic styles, Iron Gate has a special place on my wish list. I doubt it will ever be mine, but a Lolita can dream right?

Some of the other Moitie dresses I have on my wish list. :)

Vivienne Westwood Gold Label A/W 13/14 Telagraph Interview @Paris Fashion Week

Olay Complete Care Multiradiance Review

So I've been using Olay Complete Care Multiradiance for a few weeks now since I was sent a bottle by Savvy Circle.
As always these are my opinions on the product and how it worked for me, your mileage may vary.

Firstly this lotion contains SP15, now I usually have a really hard time with lotions and potions that have sun protection in with them because they tend to feel a little bit weird and greasy on my skin, but I didn't find that was the case with this one.

Another good point is that a little goes a REALLY long way. This is how much I've been using on my face and neck for the past few weeks.

Brace yourselves, un-flattering self-shots are coming!

In with the product information I was given is a guide on how to apply it the best.

Honey-badger Pride!

Facial massages help to increase the blood flow to the face and gentle tapping motions help to promote radiance!

Applying the lotion in this way claims to make your skin up to 70% more radiant after your first application. I don't really think it was as high as 70%, but I do feel it has made a difference to my skin, it looks and feels nicer than it did before I started using this product.

Another great thing in my opinion is the smell! I realise it's a bit of a superficial thing but the lotion smells a bit like Mandarin oranges, which is a smell I really love and it just puts me in a good mood first thing in the morning when I put it on.

I'm not really sure if you can see the difference in my skin in pictures? I can feel it though!

So in my opinion, this is a pretty cool product and I would recommend it if like me you have issues with other products that have sun protection in them.

No wise fish would go anywhere without a porpoise!

As promised I'm sharing a few of my favourites from the Alice in Wonderland themed shoot a few weeks back.

This was a group shoot (please check out the photographer's albums linked in this post to see photos of the other models, there are some lovely images there :) ) that took place at Newcastle University, which has a very cool mixture of old buildings and modern sculptures such as these giant heads!

They made for a very interesting "Wonderland"!

Another thing that made this a pretty cool project to be part of was getting to work with several different photographers.

It's pretty cool to be able to see all of their different styles and approaches to one subject matter!
(shame my dress got so creased by the end of the day :/ )

I'm still waiting for a couple of photographers to upload/send me their images, but for now you should check out:

Both of whom are really cool :)

And the Winner Is...!

Congratulations go to Lara T of  Rocketraptor V 1.2!
Please look out for an email from me so that I can send you Count Vlad Lepus (which I think is the perfect name for him!)

Lolita 52 Challenge, week 5: My wardrobe turnover

Great news everybody!

I have a camera again!

You get to view lots of pictures of the back of my head again!
