Fields of the Nephillim

Absoloutly epic headliners at the Friday night of the Bram Stoker International Film Festival, much better than when I saw them at M'era Luna a few years back (there's something a bit wrong about "Moonchild" in broad daylight).

You know I saw someone say online that there weren't very many people there, I thinknthat oerson must have slipped into a parallel universe though as The Spa was packed! More people than I have evr seen in there.

Suspicioys Seagull Flat

Last weekend I went AWOL from blogging because I was in Whitby for The Bram Stoker International Film Festival.

This year the flat I stayed in had an overall theme of yellow!

Or paint an entire house yellow, whatever floats your boat.

It was a very nice place, if a little bright!

A Bit Obsessed

My character Shala

Ok confession time, I didn't post an entry yesterday because most of my free time was eaten up by getting completely lost in Dragon Age Origins.
I'd heard a lot of awesome reviews and always intended to get around to playing it at some point and never did, and a couple of weeks ago it was free on Origins so I thought, heh five years later maybe it's time to have a try?
It has eaten my life!
For a game that is five years old and I got for free I am incredibly impressed, I will post a full review once I complete my first playthrough.
I think it's pretty certain at this point I will quite happily pay for the rest of the series :)

Feminist Gangs

Not that it ever was.

So making the news at the moment here in the not so United Kingdom lately has been the Chad Evans case.
TL;dr Sheffield footballer convicted of raping a woman, served half his sentence before being let out, now wants his job back, oh and one of our daytime TV stars had this to say:

Yep Judy because saying that you aren't defending someone before you defend them magically makes sense somehow, and then people sent her daughter rape threats on twitter (because somehow that makes sense?), and the red tops are finally calling for an end to internet trolls and want to call the law after Judy's daughter (not being funny, nobody deserves rape threats, at all, period, but surely if you're going to name a law after someone it makes more sense to go for someone like ooh say Anita Sarkeesian who has to put up with this bullshit every day), anyway Mr Evans's mother is now a "victim of a Feminist gang", and trying to imagine what a Feminist gang would look like is actually the one thing keeping me from hurling abuse at the TV every time I switch it on and see that this story is still ongoing.

A Feminist gang would no doubt be the most diverse gang ever, but we all have to get a new burning bra tattoo every time we Misander.

In place of a Veil

I have already mentioned that I don't want to wear a veil, but I would quite like something netted on me, and I think perhaps I would like to wear a lace mask.

I really like the idea of wearing something like this over my eyes, it gives a little mystery and glamour in my opinion!

Tiaras

via ebay

While I don't want a veil, I think that I would like a tiara of some description, I have seen some very nice pre-made ones online, but being the massive creative control freak that I am I feel that perhaps I would like to make one instead.

via etsy

I love the idea of a French Hood, although I am worried that it might not quite go with the dress, as it would be historically incorrect (not that that is a deal breaker, many things about our wedding will likely be historically incorrect), and I feel like I would probably have to change my hairstyle plans, as it would push my hair back further than the styles I have been looking at would likely work with.

I do quite like the idea of making something with clock hands though. They would be a good symbol of eternity, spinning forever like the hands of a clock!

Hair Inspiration

I don't think that I want a veil, but maybe something like this would be ok?
I think that really I would like a hairstyle that will fit well with the rococo theme of the dress, something big and floofy!
I don't think I will wear a wig though, I don't like to wear wigs and I have pretty long natural hair so I would like to use that.

Something like this would be wonderful, but it's a wig and were I to use my real hair, I don't think I have enough and I would probably wreck what I already have.

Something like this or

This would be better for what I have to work with, I am not sure which I like better so I will have to try them out and see which works better with my hair, so stay tuned for experimental photographs!

Dress Inspirations

via Flickr

The dress is something I have been thinking about for a while now, I don't really trust anybody else to make exactly what I want so I'm going to make my own.
I want something that represents me, and I have quite a flair for the dramatic so my dress will be pretty dramatic too.

via LACMA

I love the splendor of Georgian Rococo gowns and so I have bought myself a historically accurate pattern for a Robe a la Francaise. This will be somewhat of a challenge for me as I've never made anything this grand before, and I will have to also make all of the underpinnings (including a set of stays), and so I will be making a trial run in a different fabric.
My grandma gave me an old pair of blue taffeta curtains earlier in the year and I plan on making the trail run with these, if it doesn't work out, well the fabric was free, if it does work out I have something fabulous to wear for the BSIFF next year!

I do have a fabric picked out for the final dress, but I think it might be a little unlucky to share it before I even make the trial run!

Sailor Moon Crystal - Episode 7 Thoughts

I have seen the original anime in both it's dubbed version and subtitled several times through, although I'm really bad at remembering the Japanese character names so I'll be referring characters as their westernised names within this post, I have also read a few of the mangas but not all because I've never had the cash to be able to justify completing my collection when I have so many other things I want or need to get first. I have unfortunately never managed to find a dubbed or subtitled version of the live action Sailor Moon. from what I've read Sailor Moon Crystal is a lot closer to the manga than the original anime is.
In order to compare the episodes respectively I watched both the original anime and Sailor Moon Crystal ( you can watch SMC on Hulu in some countries, I couldn't get that to play here in the UK so I googled and found a stream of it on another site, however I'm not sure how legal the stream is so I'm not going to link to it).
From this point onwards THAR BE SPOILERS!

The episode starts with Serena still in Darien's bed (oh my!) and recaps part of the previous episode before she wonders how she didn't realize Darien is Tuxedo Mask (something I think everybody wonders!). She asks him why he is looking for the Imperium Silver Crystal and he explains that he is trying to regain his childhood memories, and that he remembers his parents died in a car crash when he was six, and that he has been having recurring dreams about the crystal.
He asks her why she is looking for the crystal (TL;dr, "My cat told me too"), and then asks her to keep their talk secret. Serena remembers Luna's warning that Darien might be tricking her.
She leaves, almost forgetting her bag!
Meanwhile Luna chats with a mysterious sailor scout, who says that it's to late to give Serena more experience.

Over in the Negaverse Queen Beryl awakes Queen Metilia. Metalia says that she needs more human energy and Beryl says that the Sailor Scouts keep getting in the way, Metalia explains that the Senchi defeated her once before and that she must have the Imperium Silver Crystal.
Next we get some back story about Queen Beryl, she was an ordinary human once, hiking in the North Pole when she found and awakened Queen Metalia, she fears that if she gets the crystal, Metalia will devour the earth, so Beryl intends to keep it for herself and become supreme ruler of earth. She sends Zoicite to look for Sailor Moon.

Back on Earth Molly is browsing a DVD rental store for a romance movie. Rei walks past the store and spots a creepy guy with armfuls of porn and gets a strange feeling about the store.

The next day Serena is greeding lunch from Lita again, who says she has enough to give some to Ami too. Ami is researching Sailor Venus when suddenly Melvin pops up out of the bushes and announces that nobody cares about Sailor V any more, now people just want to know about Sailor Moon!

Melvin is a complete creeper and talks about catching Sailor Moon. The girls ask Luna if she knows anything about Sailor Venus and she admits that she does!
Serena has her whole face in Lita's bento like a pig in a trough.
Whilst trying to find her handkerchief to get ketchup off her face she discovers that she has Darien's pocket watch and contemplates weather or not she should tell the others that Darien is Tuxedo Mask and he now knows that she is Sailor Moon, she decides against it because she is afraid she'll get into trouble.
In class Molly is acting strangely and seems to only care about finding Sailor Moon, Serena realises that the rest of the class are also acting strangely and muttering about Sailor Moon. Luna notices they all have a DVD from the same rental store and steals Molly's copy.
She puts the DVD into the Sailor V console in the arcade, but the picture is just some white noise.
Suddenly the Sailor V video game announces that it's a negaverse brainwashing disc and Sailor Moon must hurry and stop it.
Darien sits on a bus wondering why he told Serena about him being Tuxedo Mask and why he is looking for the crystal.

The people on the bus start acting strangely as well, as does everybody in town and suddenly they're all like zombies only they want Sailor Moon instead of brains!
Ami is almost brainwashed by the disc but saved by Luna, the girls decide they'd better find Serena and protect her.
Serena transforms into Sailor Moon and heals the zombies, but Zoisite appears and tries to kidnap her, but the other scouts arrive just in time!
Unfortunately their attacks bounce right off Zoisite's shield, but Tuxedo Mask arrives just in time and PUNCHES ZOISITE IN THE FACE!
OMG *SWOON*
The pair have a brief reunion before he attempts to punch Zoisite again, but fails to get through his shield this time, Zoisite threatens to kill Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask is powerless to stop him, but then a strange attack!
It was Sailor Venus and Artemis!
Then the episode ends!

Orania

So I found this article on BBC news today about Orania, a town in South Africa where only white people can live.
Now, in 2014, this is a place that exists.
I find it so bizarre, and actually a little bit shocking that in 2014 it's still possible to find people who will say "apartheid wasn't so bad."
