Cleaning Out My Sewing Machine

I usually clean it after each project but I just can't get over how much fluff there was under the plate this time

In order to clean it I take apart the plate and sweep the fluff out with an old toothbrush

Sheer Red Blouse

Finally finished this, took ages because my machine hated either the fabric or the thread, I'm not sure which.

Knee High Boots

Finally got a pair that will zip over my runners calves, they don't quite reach my knees because I'm tall, but they're still pretty damn cool :)

Song Time With Stirfry

Every time I try to film a video Stirfry decides he wants my attention, so I wrote him a song :)

That Awkward Moment When

An antique corsetry advertisement managed to be more size inclusive than most corset advertising today.
*sigh*

I think I have a new obsession

I seem to have become a little hooked on trying to lure all the virtual kitties to my yard in Neko Atsume

First Magazine Cover!

I'm delighted to announce I'm on the front cover of the first issue of Tracer Magazine :)
Tracer is a new magazine for people of all shapes and sizes, and promotes a message of not body shaming people, which is something I can really get behind.
You can pick up your own copy from Magcloud here.

First and Last (Not Always)

I recently found a photo of what was my favourite "corset" when I was 19.

It was just two layers of very thin brocade, super flimsy plastic bones and it fastened with hook and eye tape. I bought it from a vintage shop. My hair is also super short in the photo because this was taken like a month after I shaved my hair off. A few months afterwards I started this blog.

The latest addition to my collection

And here I am aged 26, encased in steel :)
Haven't quite managed to get this one to only have a one inch lacing gap yet, which is how I like to wear my corsets, but you already see how much better a shape and how it isn't as twisty as the other one.
My hair is also a lot longer :)

Things that haven't changed

When I went to see my grandma this week she had dug out some of my baby clothes from the back of one of her cupboards

It seems like my taste in clothes hasn't really changed very much, as I would quite happily still wear dresses like all of these if they were my size!

I'm actually a little tempted to use them as inspiration for some of my next projects!

Seasoning

Corset people will get the joke!

Yesterday I think I managed to grab bargain of the century.
About a year ago a corset and burlesque shop opened, and then quickly closed again before I ever got a chance to visit, which is a shame as they had an in house maker rather than just upselling Corsets UK stock like mostof the local goth shops around here do.

It does have two bows on the sides, however they came lose while I was wearing it so I need to put in a couple of stitches.

Anyhow, I was reliably informed by another corset fan I know that some of the liquidated stock from that shop had ended up in one of the goth shops.
So I had a very interesting afternoon trying on very curvy, hand made corsets that had labels on them for one third of the price of the mass produced corsets on the next rail.

And so I ended up with this beauty, and while it does have a couple of flaws (it's quite wrinkly and the binding at the bottom doesn't meet properly), it's still rather pretty, and feels really nice on. :)

An Old Postcard

I found an Edwardian Postcard of Saltwell Park when I was looking for decent photos of Saltwell Towers.
The tree on the left is one that I used to sit under for picnics with my brother, mam and grandma when I was a kid, it's a much bigger tree these days.
There's a bunch of different photos on the site Pictures of Gateshead, it's really interesting.
